Glass Skin is the “It” Routine

And It’s Easy to See Why

Skincare is my jam. I’ve have spent countless minutes turned hours on TikTok researching products, making sure ingredients aren’t harmful, and adding to cart once satisfied with my choices. Talk about retail therapy. So when I stumbled across a new skincare routine that prides itself on making you look like a glazed donut—I was all in.

What is Glass Skin?

If your skin is like “glass” then you’re reflecting a super hydrated, even-toned, and almost translucent look. Coined by the creators of K-beauty and followed by many enthusiasts—this skincare goal can be achieved with the right techniques and patience.

Ready to get a plump and smooth complexion? Here are the steps to follow!

Step 1: Double Cleansing

If you’re like me, the thought of double cleansing may seem a little daunting at first. But if you want hydrated and glowy skin—you gotta do what you gotta do. Experts say, the first cleanser should be derived of oil to remove any impurities (excess dirt) while the second should be gentle and water-based.

Step 2: Exfoliation

Getting rid of dead skin is super important for achieving glass skin. You should first know, however, that there are two forms of exfoliants.

First there’s physical exfoliation: a manual process (think loofahs and facial cleansing brushes) which can be used by incorporating abrasive facial scrubs, such as those with microbeads.

Then there’s chemical exfoliation: products, such as facial peels, do all of the work in removing dirt and clogged pores. All you have to do is safely apply products based on the directions.

A great one to try would be: Moon Juice’s Acid Potion

After choosing which exfoliation method is right for you—remember to not overdo it (it’s suggested 2-3 times a week) and always patch test.

Step 3: Toner

A toner—with ingredients such as glycerin or hyaluronic acid—is absolutely necessary for achieving glowy skin. When used, your skin is hydrated, pH levels are balanced, and the skin barrier is able to absorb new products.

A great brand to try: LANEIGE Cream Skin Refillable Toner & Moisturizer with Ceramides and Peptides

Step 4: Essence

If serums and toners had a love child, it would be essence. The lightweight and mostly water-based moisturizer is a staple in any K-beauty glass skin routine for reducing redness. While using, experts suggest, tapping the product into the skin, as opposed to rubbing it in, to ensure maximum absorption.

Some brands to try:

Step 5: Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

If it wasn’t apparent the first time, moisturizer is a major step in getting a dewy complexion. It seals in all of your previous products while also creating a protective barrier—which is ultimately what you need to flaunt glass skin. Facial oils and products with ceramides are great to use.

Step 6: Sunscreen

Whether you’re a novice or expert in the skincare game, you should know that protecting your skin from harmful UV rays (rain or shine) is oh so important.

After you’re done with all of your daily skin prep (and hopefully relaxed from it all), apply SPF 30or higher. Not only does it help with hyperpigmentation, but it seals the deal for glass skin.
